Christmas 2021
今年のクリスマスイベントのアクティビティはほとんど去年と一緒でしたがちょっと変更して行いました。子供達が台所へ行かないようにヤドリギを付けました。ヤドリギの下行ったら互いにキスをしないとダメになります。誰も行きたくなかったです。料理を準備しながら二人の生徒がヤドリギの下に行ってしまい伝統を思い出して早く逃げました。
This year’s Christmas event had most of the same activities that all the kids liked in previous years, plus a couple of new added features. To help keep kids out of the kitchen, we hung up mistletoe between the kitchen and the classroom. We told them that if they went under it, they would have to kiss the person that they were under the mistletoe with. None of the kids wanted to go under it and when two students were reminded of the tradition while we were bringing the food, they quickly ran away.
「The Night Before Christmas」と言う絵本の読み聞かせからイベントを始めました。一人の生徒以外全員が「アナと雪の女王」のオラフのバージョンが好きでした。そしてクリスマスに欲しい物を伝える練習を英語でしました。何人かの子供たちは緊張していましたが優しく「Please」と「Thank you」言いながら互いにプレゼントを渡しました。
We started with the original story “The Night Before Christmas.” However, all but one of the kids preferred the Olaf from “Frozen” version more. Then we practiced saying what we want for Christmas. Some of the kids were a little nervous talking to each other, but they all nicely gave each other presents and said “please” and “thank you” to each other.
その後子供たちの一番好きなアクティビティをしました。ジンジャーブレッドクッキーにアイシングをしました。ちゃんと英語で頼んで緑や赤や白のアイシングとクリスマスツリーとプレゼントとキャンディーケーンとジンジャーブレッドマンの形をしたクッキーをもらいました。イメージできるように見本を見せましたが、子供たちのクッキーは僕達のより素敵でした。何人かの生徒たちがアイシングをどのぐらい付けた方がいいか迷っていましたが甘いということを知って、すぐにいっぱい付けました。
After that, we got into the kids’ favorite activity, decorating gingerbread cookies. They asked for and received green, red and white icing for their Christmas tree, present, candy cane and gingerbread man shaped cookies. We showed them some techniques that they could use and as always, most of their designs outshined ours. Some of them weren’t sure how much icing to use, but after we told them that it was sweet and they tried it, they put a lot more on their cookies.
雪の結晶が他のイベントと比べたらおそらく一番難しいクラフトです。折ったりと線を書くことは上手に出来ましたが紙が分厚いから切るのはめちゃくちゃ難しかったです。何人かは自分で出来ましたがほとんどが紙のバランスとはさみを握る手伝えが必要でした。間違えたと思っても紙を開けてみたら全員が個性的な雪の結晶が出来ていました。
Perhaps one of the most challenging crafts that we have made for the events is the paper snowflakes. They all did a good job following the directions folding the paper and drawing lines on the triangles, however, the paper was really thick so cutting it was difficult. Some could do it on their own, but most needed help balancing the paper or squeeing the scissors with enough power. Even if they thought they made a mistake, after the unfolded their paper, they each had a unique and beautiful snowflake.
理美が皆の食事を準備しながら子供たちは発音を学びました。「C」は 「Candy CaneとChristmas tree」。「S」は「Santaとsnowman」と発音します。正確に言えた後カップの塔を作りました。その後人気のある「How the Grinch Stole Christmas」と言うの絵本を読みました。物語は少し長く、言葉は韻を踏むために理解しにくいものでしたが、言語能力に関係なく、すべての子供たちが物語に夢中になりました。子供たちは家でアニメと実写化バージョンを見たがっていました。
While Rimi prepared everyone’s meals, we passed the time by learning the phonics of “C” and “S” with words like “Candy Cane and Christmas tree” and “Santa and snowman.” The kids built a cup tower after correctly saying the words. Then we read the ever popular story called “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Despite the story being a little long and the words, in order to rhyme, being difficult to understand, all the kids, regardless of language ability were enthralled with the story. Many kids were excited to watch both the animated version and live action movie at home.
子供たちは皿の上の自分で作ったクッキーを見てワクワクになりました。去年の豆スープの代わりにローストチキンとキノコとインゲンスープを作りました。去年より今年はメイン料理を食べながら笑顔がたくさん見られました。子供たちはシュトーレンとピーナツバターとチョコのバックアイズを慎重に見ていました。ほとんどの人は全部好きでしたが何人かは両親に渡しました。残念ながら子供たちのほとんどが自家製のエッグノッグがあまり好きではませんでした。両親たちはトライしてエンジョイしました。
The kids were all excited to see one of the cookies that they made on their plates. Instead of the previous year’s split pea soup, I made roasted chicken in mushroom soup with green beans. There were more smiles while eating the main dish this year than last year. Some kids were wary of the stollen and peanut butter and chocolate buckeyes. Most liked it, but some gave them to their moms. Unfortunately, most kids still did not like the homemade eggnog, but the parents enjoyed trying it.
イベントは大成功でした。参加してくれた方にとても感謝します。皆にメリークリスマスとハッピーニューイヤー！
All in all, it was very successful event. We are so thankful for everyone who attended. We wish all of you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
