July 4th 2022
2022 年のアメリカの独立記念日のイベントは、3つのクラスで 行 いました。3 歳のクラスと兄弟のクラスと英語が上 手な5−6歳のクラスです。何週間も前からアメリカの旗で 教室が飾りつけられました。部屋中が赤と白と青で埋め尽くされていました。それから、花火やタカの飾りもありました。 幼 い3歳のクラスは語彙を学んで、アクティビティでエンジョイしました。先輩達は歴史も学んで、その上で実にいい質問をしてくれました。
The 2022 Fourth of July event had three classes, one of mostly 3 year olds, a sibling class and a high level 5-6 year old class. The room had been set up in anticipation for the event for a few weeks as we hung the American flag and there was red white and blue everywhere. Decorations included fireworks and a couple bald eagles. The younger class mostly learned a few vocabulary words and a enjoyed the activities. The older students learned a lot of history and asked really good questions throughout their entire event.
いつものように最初に自己紹介をして、何故独立記念日のお祝いをするか理由を説明しました。子ども達は地球儀で国を探すのが楽しそうでした。歴史を教えた後、伝統的なアク ティビティを学びました。新しい言葉をリピートした後、体 を回したり花火になる真似をしたりました。それから、指示 に合わせて動くゲームをしました。例えば、誰かが『Let’s have a parade』と言ったら、皆が素早く旗を持って音楽に合わせて小さな行進をするというゲームです。 
We of course started with the usual introductions and a short explanation of why we celebrate Independence Day. The kids seemed to enjoy finding countries on the globe. When we finished the history lesson, we learned about several typical activities Americans do to celebrate July 4th. We spun or pretended to be fireworks after repeating the vocabulary. We acted out the various activities after saying what we should do. For example, someone said, “Let’s have a parade!” and then we had a quick parade with flags and music.
本物の行進の準備の為に、『Uncle Sam』(アメ リカの象徴的 な人)の帽子を作りました。白い紙に赤くて長細い紙を 7 つ 貼りました。(そうすると白い縦じま6つができます。)そし て、青い紙に13の白い星を貼りました。作りながら、子ど もたちは思い出してくれました。アメリカの旗は13の星と 縦じま模様で始まったこと、それはアメリカの最初の13州 を象徴していることを。また、子どもたちは作っている間、 「紙をください」「のりをください」と丁寧に頼むことができました。
To prepare for the main parade, we made Uncle Sam hats. We glued 7 red stripes on white paper (making 6 white stripes) and glued 13 white stars on blue paper. They remembered from earlier that the American flag started with 13 stars and stripes to represent the first 13 United States of America. They politely asked for their materials and the glue each time they finished their part. 
行進の時間になりました! ジョン・フィリップ・スーザ という有名な作曲家の行進音楽を聞きながら、帽子を被り、 アメリカの旗を持って、並んで行進を始めました。教室から 台所や廊下へ行きました。フィナーレで両親とリミが紙吹雪 を投げました。それは、ほとんどの子どもにとって初めての経験でした。 行進後は皆できれいに掃除が出来ました。
It was time for the parade! We played songs from the most famous American patriotic marches composer, John Phillip Sousa. Then we put on our hats. We passed out flags to both kids and parents. We lined up and then began to march. We went from the classroom, to the kitchen and the hallway. The grand finale included confetti tossed by Rimi and their parents. This was a new experience for most of the kids, but they were very good about cleaning up the confetti afterwards.
紙吹雪を全部拾った後、リミがピクニックランチを温めて 準備しました。その間、私たちは『F』の発音を f,f...fourth, fireworks と firecrackers で練習しました。カップで塔を作る遊びに、子どもたちは大喜びしていました。10個まで積み上げ られたところで、倒しました。小さい子たちは英語の仕掛け 絵本を読みました。「please」や「thank you」について書かれている本です。子どもたちは仕掛けを引っ張って、場面が変わるのを楽しみました。大きい子たちは『This Land is Your Land』 という歌を学びました。そして、ビデオでアメリカの地理を学びました。
When all of the confetti was picked up, Rimi began heating up and preparing the picnic. We learned the phonics of “F says f, f... fourth, fireworks and firecrakers.” We built a cup tower to the delight of the students. We were able to get to ten cups high before we knocked it over. The younger kids read a pull and slide book about using please and thank you. They enjoyed pulling the pages to see the image change. The older kids learned the song “This Land is Your Land,” and learned more about the geography of America.
今年のピクニックランチのメニューは、去年のメニューと 一緒でしたが、1 つだけ変えました。軸付きのトウモロコシ とさつま芋のフライドポテトは大成功でした。ほとんどの子 どもはブラックビンスバーガーが好きでしたが、ちょっと辛 いと思った子どももいました。けれでも、できるだけ食べて くれました。両親はチェリーパイを満喫しました。子どもた ちも好きでしたが、ちょっと酸っぱいと思う子もいました。 でも、その子たちも生地は好きでした。
This years picnic menu was the same as last year’s, with one small change. The corn on the cob and the sweet potato french fries were a hit. Most everybody really liked the black bean burgers, but a couple of students thought that it was too spicy. They did a good job of eating what they could. The cherry cobbler (pie) was thoroughly enjoyed by the parents. Several of the student liked it too, but some thought it was a little too tart, but they liked the crust.
独立記念日が終わって、夏が本当に来たことを感じていま す。普通の授業はちょっと残っていますが、その後サマース クールが始まります。涼しく楽しく過ごせたらいいなと思っ ています。 
Now that we have celebrated the 4th of July, it truly feels that summer is here. We have a few short weeks of our regular classes and then we will be able to offer summer school. Hopefully, we will be able to have fun and stay cool at the same time.
