Saint Patrick's Day 2021

今年の両親の日のイベントは寛ぎながらも、たくさんのことをしました。 3つのクラスがワクワクしながら参加しました。半分の生徒達はまだ飾り を見ていなかったから、部屋を全部見ました。短い自己紹介をして、直ぐ に「両親は何が出来る?」と互いに質問しあいました。 

We had a very low key but action packed Parents’ Day event! We had three classes that were excited to take part in the event. About half of the students had not seen the decorations so they scanned the room to see them all. We had some short introductions and then we started asking what each other’s parents could do. 

“Can your mommy/daddy play sports?” を聞けるようになるのに、少し 時間がかかりましたが、“Yes, she/he can!” “No, she/he can’t” と叫びな がら左右にジャンプして、楽しんでいました。勉強している間は恥ずかし がる子供もいましたが、 3 回英語を言うのを繰り返した後、お母さんに走 ってハグをするのが、一番のお気に入りになったようです。

We spent extra teaching time to make sure that students were able to ask “Can you mommy/daddy play sports?” They had fun jumping to the yes and no side of the rope shouting “Yes, she/he can!” and “No, she/he can’t!” During the teaching time, some were more shy than others, but most kids favorite time when they repeated something three times fast, they could run and hug mommy. 

両親に感謝を表現するやり方の 1 つは花を作ることでした。最初、子供 達は花の茎を作りました。そして黒い紙に貼りました。その後、花びらにする為に折った細い部分の紙を貼りました。黄色いおしべを加えて完成さ せました。一人の子供が早く終わったので、感謝の手紙も書けました! 毎子供たちは何か欲しいものがある時は丁寧に頼みました。もちろん貰っ た後に Thank you を言いました。 

One way we decided to show gratitude was to make flowers for our parents. First kids designed their flower stems and leaves. Next, they glued them onto black paper. They then glued and folded paper strips into the shape of petals. They finished by adding the yellow stamens. One student finished so quickly that she was able to write her mommy a thank you message! Each time they needed something, they asked politely for it and said thank you after they received it.

一番大事なアクティビティは子供達がお母さんの昼ご飯を作ることで した。 ママにブルーベリーかイチゴジャム、どちらが欲しいかを聞きま した。さらに、ジャムを塗りながら、ジャムやピーナツバターが足りているかを確認しました。ピーナツバターを滑らかに塗るのがちょっと大変でしたが、お母さんは子供が頑張る 姿 を見て、感謝していました。アメりカの味のポテトチップスと野菜スティックとディップをエンジョイしま した。

The most important part of the event was when the students made lunch for their mommies. They asked whether they wanted blueberry or strawberry jelly and asked if they wanted more peanut butter or jelly while they were spreading it on the bread. The peanut butter was a little tricky to smooth out for them, but the moms all appreciated the effort. They enjoyed American flavored potato chips and vegetable sticks and dip.

ご飯を食べながら、P. D Eastman の“Are You My Mother”という、人気 がある絵本を読みました。文法が簡単だし、絵があるので、皆は話が分かりました。一人は本はつまらないと言っていたのに、読むのを止めたくな いとも言っていました。イベントが終わって、子供はお母さんのところに 戻りました。お母さんと子供もほっとしていました。 皆さん、参加してくれて本当にありがとうございました! 次はアメリ カの独立の日のイベントを一緒にお祝いするのを楽しみにしています! 

While the students ate, we read the popular picture book, “Are You My Mother,” by P. D. Eastman. Between the easy English grammar and the pictures, every student understood the story. One student said that it was boring, but at the same time did not want to stop reading it. All the children and parents felt relieved when the mother and child were finally reunited. Thank you to everyone who participated and we can’t wait to celebrate July 4th with everyone!
